Kitty Merkley Files For County Treasurer

Kitty bigJASPER (From Sources) – Cathy “Kitty” Merkley has filed to seek the Republican nomination for the office of Dubois County Treasurer, subject to the May 3 primary election.

In 2014 Merkley was elected Madison Township Trustee. She is employed by the Dubois County Health Department as a food safety specialist/financial assistant/clerk. She earned a paralegal certificate from the American Academy of Paralegal Studies in Chicago in 1991. In 2001 she earned an associate degree in culinary arts from Vincennes University.

She has been active in many school and community organizations, serving in leadership roles in PTAs at Fifth Street, Jasper Middle, and Jasper High schools, and for track and cross country booster clubs. She has served as vice-president and president of Big Brothers Big Sisters, has been active on stage and backstage serving as a stage manager for three Actors Community Theatre productions. She is a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. In 2008 she opened the Let’s Do Lunch restaurant in Jasper, which she operated until it was sold in 2011.

Merkley, 47, and her husband, Dennis, live in Madison Township and are parents of three adult children, J. Kyle Merkley, a recent graduate of Vanderbilt University now living in Dallas, Texas, Kevin A. Merkley, a member of the United State Air Force, and Mariya C.L. Merkley, a freshman at Western Kentucky University.
