Mat Cats Finish Second in Jasper Duals Meet

wrestling artworkJASPER (NNDC) – Jasper hosted the 5-school Jasper Duals wrestling meet Saturday at the JHS gym.

The Wildcats defeated Corydon Central (72-9), Washington (42-40), and Heritage Hills (66-8), but then lost to Gibson Southern in the decisive fourth match, 48-21. As a result Gibson Southern and Jasper finished one-two in the meet’s team standings.

The champion Titans won six of the 14 individual weight classes, Washington claimed five, Heritage Hills two, and Jasper one.

The Wildcats’ Corey Gould was the individual champion in the 170 pound class, scoring with three pins and a forfeit. He pinned Cameron Herthel of Corydon Central in 3:23, Zach Gasaway of Heritage Hills in a quick :57, and Lucas Plasse of Gibson Southern in 2:29.

The Jasper junior varsity won the JV meet with wins over Corydon Central and Gibson Southern and a pair of forfeits.
