Gutgsell Named Jasper’s New Assistant Park Director

JASPER (NNDC) – The Jasper Park & Recreation Department has hired 37-year old Rob Gutgsell as its new Assistant Director in Charge of Operations.

The Jasper High School and Ball State graduate rejoins a department he once worked for.

He joined the department as a lifeguard at the Jasper City Pool while in high school (1989-1992).   He then became a member of the department’s golf course maintenance staff before he took a job with Fort Harrison State Park in Indianapolis in 1998.

He returned closer to home in 2003 when he became the Assistant Property Manager at Patoke Lake State Park where he has been before accepting the Assistant Park Director’s position with the City of Jasper.

Gutgsell succeeds Mike Oeding, the long-time Jasper park’s assistant director who passed away this past August.

Gutgsell says he’s looking forward to continuing the “legacy of the man, Mike Oeding, who hired me at 16 and gave the insight to make parks and recreation my career.”

Gutgsell and his wife Elizabeth have a son, Robert (Trey) III.
