Anastasia Vaal, 94, St. Meinrad

AAnastasia Vaal, 94, of St. Meinrad, died Saturday at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand. She was born in St. Meinrad  April 19, 1921, to Joseph and Hedwig (Moog) Wiederkehr. She married Urvin H. Vaal September 30, 1941,at St. Meinrad Catholic Church. He died June 9, 2012.

Anastasia was a homemaker and spent much of her life working on the family farm. She was a member of St. Meinrad parish and its St. Elizabeth’s Sodality. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by three sons, three sons, Delbert Vaal, Charles Vaal and wife Susan, and Marvin Vaal and wife Mary Jo, all of St. Meinrad; four daughters, Margie Rothgerberand husband Al, Ferdinand, Eileen Emerson and husband Richard, Branchville, Diana Gogel and husband Jim, St. Meinrad, and Brenda Wheatley and husband Jerry, Huntingburg; one sister, Josepha Sitzman, Bristow; one brother, Joseph Wiederkehr, 16 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Agatha Fette and Mary Miller, one brother, Francis Wiederkehr; and one daughter-in-law, Patricia Vaal.

Friends may call from 2-8 (CDT) Tuesday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand and from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Meinrad Church Funeral services at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Meinrad Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
