Ferdinand Man In Custody Charged With Murder; Rape

20160110_120255-1St. Henry (NNDC) – A Ferdinand man is in custody facing murder and rape charges following an overnight hostage situation at a home east of St Henry.

Dead is 37-year old Jeffrey Perry, the homeowner.   Police say he died of multiple stab wounds.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says two women were with Perry at the house the time.  Their names are not being released at this time.

In custody is 25-year old Kyle Popplewell.

Popplewell is charged with murder, two counts of rape, battery, battery with serious bodily injury  and criminal confinement.

Officers were first called to the scene at about 2:40 a.m. Sunday.

After a three-hour standoff officers entered the home where they found Perry dead and both women injured along with Popplewell who was taken into custody.

The two women were taken to Memorial Hospital in Jasper and were later released.

The investigation continues and more details to follow when they’re made available.
