Daniel A. “Cotton” Remke, 82, Ferdinand

Remke editedDaniel A. “Cotton” Remke, 82, of Ferdinand, died Saturday (January 2) at Brookside Village Retirement Community in Jasper. He was born in Ferdinand February 17, 1933, to Benno and Philomena “Minnie” (Schaeffer) Remke. He married Peggy Schneiders May 18, 1957, at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand. She died  March 18, 1995.

Cotton retired from DMI Furniture in 1996. He was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish and Ferdinand American Legion Post No. 124. He was an avid baseball fan, especially a fan of the Cincinnati Reds, and an avid Indiana University basketball fan. He played baseball for the Ferdinand Cardinals, and for the U.S. Army in Panama. He enjoyed playing sheepshead.

He is survived by one daughter, Jean Seidl and husband Ray, Jasper; one son, Tim Remke and wife Susan, Tell City; two grandchildren, Ryan and Rhett Baumeister; one great-granddaughter, Lydia Baumeister; and one sister, Shirley Remke, Ferdinand.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and 7-9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. In lieu of flowers the family would like memorial contributions be made to a favorite charity. Funeral services at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Henry Catholic Church, followed by burial with military graveside rites by Ferdinand Legion Post 124 in St. Ferdinand Church Cemetery.
