Forest Park Girls Win Eastern Greene Tournament; Southridge Finishes Strong At VU

Holiday tournaments for local high school basketball teams continue this week.

FOREST PARK 58 EDGEWOOD 50 (Girls)

After finishing second a year ago, Forest Park wins the Toby Yoho Classic hosted by Eastern Greene High School.  (EDITOR’S NOTE: Earlier we incorrectly reported FPHS won the tourney last December)

Forest Park wins with a 58-50 win over Edgewood Tuesday evening.

Marty Niehaus’ Lady Rangers defeated Brown County (77-29), Boonville (61-44) and Riverton-Parke (61-45) earlier in the tournament to advance to last night’s championship game.

The Lady Rangers improve to 10-6 with the tournament championship.

SOUTHRIDGE 40 FLOYD CENTRAL 35 (Girls)

Meanwhile, in the 5th Place game of the annual Vincennes Rivet Invitational played at Vincennes University, the Southridge Lady Raiders defeated Floyd Central 40-35.

Greg Werner’s ballclub outscored the Lady Highlanders 18-13 in the 4th quarter for the final margin of victory.

Kayla Voegerl led Southridge with 14 points; fellow senior Taylor Neukam added 11.

The Lady Raiders improve to 14-2 for the season. They lost the tournament opener Monday to Castle, 40-37. They advanced to the 5th Place later in the day with a 66-26 win over White River Valley.
