Virginia C. Vollmer, 90, Jasper

Virginia VollmerVirginia C. Vollmer, 90 of Jasper, died Saturday (December 26) at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. She was born in Jasper March 9, 1925, to Lawrence and Clara (Werner) Blessinger. She married Maurice J. Vollmer August 14, 1945, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland. He died December 21, 1977.

Virginia was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper and the St. Ann’s Society. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by five daughters, Mary Jean Werner and husband Virgil, Ireland, Linda Schmett and husband Mike, Huntingburg, and Donna Merkley and husband Randy, Carole Jahn and husband Dale, and Cathy Schroering and husband Donald, all of Jasper; five sons, Ed Vollmer and wife Kathy and Larry Vollmer and wife Mary Catherine, all of Ireland, and Ronald, Richard, and Kenneth Vollmer, all of Jasper; one sister, Clara M. Burd, Louisville; 21 grandchildren; and 43 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Dean Vollmer and Beth Ann Merkley, and two great-grandchildren; Ben and Hope Fischer.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. The St. Joseph St. Ann’s Society will pray a rosary at 1:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Church or to a favorite charity.
