Leroy F. Bartelt, 81, Huntingburg

Leroy Bartlet USELeroy F. Bartelt, 81, of Huntingburg, died Sunday (December 27) at Brookside Village in Jasper. He was born in Huntingburg to George and Anna (Peters) Bartelt September 29, 1934. He married Carolyn Ash December 24, 1955.

Leroy was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Huntingburg, a graduate of the Holland High School Class of 1952, attended Purdue University, and was a lifetime farmer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the National Guard. He served in the Army in Thuele, Greenland. He was a member of the Birdseye Order of the Eastern Star, Dubois County Masonic Lodge No. 520 F&AM, and Scottish Rite and Hadi Shrine of Evansville. He belonged to the Hadi Shrine Hospital staff and drove crippled children to hospitals. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and V.F.W. Post No. 2366, was a driver for veterans a member of the St. Henry Fire Department, and was a Kentucky Colonel. He enjoyed traveling and was proud of his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Bartelt; two daughters, Terri BGartelt, Huntingburg, and Cathryn Wagner and husband Gene, Celestine; one son, Thomas Bartelt, Huntingburg; two grandchildren, Dustin Wagner and Jilian Hasse and husband Chris, Dubois; and one sister, Mabel Bartelt, Huntingburg.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Evelyn Jackson, and one brother, Earl Bartelt.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. (EST) Tuesday at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. A Masonic service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Funeral services at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with burial following in Fairmount Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the VFW Post 2366 memorial detail. The funeral will be conducted by Rev. Michael Thompson.
