Esther A. Weidenbenner, Ireland

Esther WeidenbennerEsther A. Weidenbenner, 85, of Ireland, died Sunday at Brookside Village in Jasper. She was born in Spencer County June 15, 1930 to Christian and Mary (Schaeffer) Tretter. She married John Weidenbenner July 21, 1951, at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand.

Esther attended Dale High School. She, her husband and son were owners of Weidenbenner, Eggs, Inc. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, its St. Ann’s Society, and the Daughters of Isabella. She was a recipient of the Brute Award, and a member of the German Club. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, dancing, watching college basketball, and loved attending her grandchildren’s activities.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, John Weidenbenner; four daughters, Jane Howard Howard and husband Al, Gilroy, California, Debbie Schwenk and husband Mike, Ireland, Karen Streicher and husband Ken, Washington, and Donna Schroering and husband Ken, Evansville; one son, Dennis Weidenbenner and wife Clare, Ireland; 11 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 16 step-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Irene Balbach, Haubstadt, and Almeda Hopf and husband Donnie, and Alice Gilson and husband Leo, all of Jasper; three brothers, Linus Tretter and wife Mary Lou, Celestine, Ray Tretter and wife Betty, Ferdinand, and Urban Tretter and wife Judy, Huntingburg,

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper. The St. Mary’s St. Ann’s Society and the Daughters of Isabella will pray a rosary at 1:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Church or to a favorite charity. Online condolences may be made at Funeral services at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
