Neoma B. Sander, 85, Newburgh

Naomi SanderNeoma B. Sander, 85, of Newburgh, died Saturday (December 19) at the Newburgh Health Care Center in Newburgh. She was born in Celestine March 3, 1930, to Bernard and Theresia (Schroering) Kluesner. She married Richard A. Sander October 17, 1953. He died February 11, 1991.

Neoma retired from Holy Family School where she worked in the cafeteria for many years. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, the Blessed Virgin Sodality, and the American Legion Post 147 and V.F.W. Post 673 Auxiliaries. She was a volunteer and member of the Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper and Northwood Retirement Community. She was an avid quilter and a Eucharistic mInister.

She is survived by two daughters, Mary Jane Swartz and husband Kevin, Evansville, and Susan Riggs and husband Donald, Granger; one son, Michael Sander and wife Becky, Indianapolis; seven grandchildren, Katie, Kelly, David, Emily, Alyson, Donnie and Joe; five great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Meredith, Logan, Olivia, and William; two sisters, Bernice Knies and husband Jerome, Celestine, and Yvonne Luebbehusen and husband Francis, St. Henry; two brothers, Arnie Kluesner and wife Alice and Ronnie Kluesner, all of Jasper, and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two sisters, Adeline Fleck and Verena Egenolf and one sister who died in infancy.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper and from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Church. A rosary will be prayed at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, led by the Blessed Virgin Sodality and members of Holy Family parish. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Church or to Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center. Online condolences may be made at Funeral services at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family church with burial following in Fairview Cemetery.
