Dr. Daniel J. Berger, 89, Jasper

Dan BergerDr. Daniel J. Berger, 89, of Jasper, died Wednesday (December 16) at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper. He was born in St. Meinrad July 14, 1926, to Joseph and Verena (Ruxer) Berger. He married Jackie Stewart June 9, 1951, in St. Louis.

Daniel was a dentist and practiced in Jasper for over 48 years. He was a member of the American Dental Association, Indiana Dental Association, The First District Dental Society, the Academy of General Dentistry, and a fellow in the American College of Dentists. He served on the State Board of Dental Examiners for nine years. He was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran and served in World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 147 in Jasper.He was awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash award in 1988, was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, and a Jasper Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Knight. He enjoyed photography, traveling, cooking, house boating, and spending time with friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Jackie Berger; two daughters, Chris Drake and husband David, Huntingburg, and Terri Keusch and husband Mike, Jasper; two sons, Dr. Greg Berger and wife Anne, and Tom Berger, all of Jasper; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; one sister, JoRean Hoffman and husband John, Jasper; and one brother, Harvey Berger and wife Bernita, Jasper.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Joey Berger and Angela Keusch.

Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or to the St. Vincent DePaul Society. American Legion Post No. 147 will conduct military gravesite rites.
