Virginia Long, 85, Evansville

Virginia LongVirginia C. Long, 85, of Evansville, died Tuesday (December 15) at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand. She was born in Bristow August 30, 1930, to Edward & Johanna (Zoglman) Fuchs. She married Raymond Hildenbrand April 21, 1951, in St. Meinrad Catholic Church. He died May 16, 1984. She married Maurice Long July 1, 2001, at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church.

Virginia was a member of St. Boniface Parish in Fulda and its Ladies Sodality and St. Meinrad Legion Post No. 366 Auxillary. She was a farmer, homemaker, and school bus driver for North Spencer School Corporation. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, dancing with the “Ferdinand Bunch”, and being with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Maurice Long; five sons, James Hildenbrand and wife

Brenda, and Randy Hildenbrand and wife Connie, all of Ferdinand, Ken Hildenbrand and wife Melissa, Idaho; Kevin Hildenbrand and wife Glenda, Mariah Hill, and Steve Hildenbrand, Rough River, Kentucky; two daughters, Jane Simon, Santa Claus, and Janice Goldsberry, Mariah Hill; 22 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by four sisters, Katie Enlow, Tillie Hamm, Frances Luebbehusen, and Monica Fuchs, and two brothers, Albert and Robert Fuchs.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. (CDT) Friday and 7-9:30 a.m. Saturday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Online condolences may be made at Funeral services at 10 a.m. Saturday at Saint Boniface Church in Fulda with burial following in the church cemetery.
