Audrey E. Habig, 89, Jasper

Habig, AudreyAudrey E. Habig, 89, of Jasper, died Saturday (December 12) at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper. She was born in Chicago September 10, 1926, to James and Margerite (Burke) Dineen. She married Anthony Habig December 15, 1955, in Pasadena, California. He died February 15, 2013.

Audrey was an actress who worked in film, television, and theater. She was known as the “Queen of Live TV Commercials” and was featured weekly on the Ina Ray Hutton Show which aired on the west coast for four years in the mid 1950s and nationally on NBC for one season in 1956. She was the first woman featured in a commercial to sell beer on television.

She was an avid supporter of the arts and a former board member of the Jasper Community Arts Commission. She was a member of the “18 Hole Ladies Golfers” group at the Jasper County Club and the Jasper Ladies Racquet Club. She also loved to travel for both business and pleasure.

She is survived by one daughter, Mallon Anne Habig, Jasper; one grandson, Ryan Anthony Miller, Jasper; one sister, Joan Mitchell, Southern California, and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Dineen, and two brothers, Richard and James Dineen.

An “Afternoon Tea and Tribute” will be held for Audrey Thursday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Tea will be served from 4:30 p.m. until the tribute at 6 p.m. Father Ray Brenner will officiate. Private burial will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Jasper at a later date.
