dasleben hausJASPER (NNDC) – A rural Cuzco man faces several charges including a felony count of Obstruction of Justice following an incident in Jasper Saturday evening.

Jasper police say they got a call from a local resident on Stacy Lane at about 7:15PM telling them that 44-year old Reginald Smith was intoxicated and was being irate and aggressive.

JPD says Smith then left the Stacy Lane location in vehicle.

When police arrived on scene at the Stacy Lane location, the caller told officers he felt threatened by Smith’s demeanor and was scared that Smith was too drunk to drive when he drove away earlier.

A few minutes later, a second caller told JPD that Smith had driven to her residence on Jasper’s northeast side.

Officers went to the second home. It was determined by JPD that Smith had driven while intoxicate. JPD says Smith failed a field sobriety test testing .257% (more than four times the legal limit to drive in Indiana).

Smith was taken into custody and was transported to Memorial Hospital for a chemical blood test, but JPD says he refused to submit to that test even after a warrant was issued by police.

Smith faces a Level 6 felony count of Obstruction of Justice and two misdemeanors of Operating While Intoxicated and Operating While Intoxicated (Endangerment).
