Marie V. Blessinger, 90, Holland

Marie BlessingerMarie V. Blessinger, 90, of Holland, died Saturday (December 12) at Brookside Village in Jasper. She was born in Celestine April 5, 1925, to Herman and Lorena (Verkamp) Metz. She married Gilbert J. Blessinger November 20, 1948, at Celestine. He died March 17, 2008.

Marie was a homemaker and a member of St. Henry Catholic Church, St. Henry Christian Mothers, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, and Holland American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed card games and puzzles, gardening, bird watching, quilting, and baking, especially her homemade bread.

She is survived by two daughters, Elaine Hanebutt and husband Mike, Huntingburg, and Kathy Gwozda and Debra, Seattle, Washington; four sons, four sons, Steven J. Blessinger wife Kathy, and Arnold Blessinger and wife Marie, all of Holland, David Blessinger and wife Nora, Monument Springs, Colorado, and Daniel Blessinger and wife Patrica, Elkwood, Virginia; one brother, Lawrence Metz, Celestine; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one daughter, Angela Blessinger.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. (EST) Tuesday and from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Friday at the Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. Three vigil services will be held Tuesday with the first starting at 6:30 p.m., held by the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, the second at 8 p.m., held by the Holland American Legion Auxiliary, and the third at 8:15 p.m., held by the St. Henry Christian Mothers who will pray the rosary. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Henry Catholic Church. Condolences can be shared online at A funeral mass at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Henry Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
