Don Edward Ambrose, 82, Jasper

AmbroseDon Edward Ambrose, 82, of Jasper, died Thursday (December 3) at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper. He was born in Cleveland November 1,1933, to Edward and Mary (Csvy) Ambrose. He married Beverly Peacock January 23,1955, in Natchez, Mississippi. She died October 28, 1974.

Don was a boilermaker and pipefitter. He was a member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Siberia. He was a member of St. Meinrad Legion Post No. 366 and a Masonic Lodge member in Texas. He was a U.S. Navy aviation veteran, serving in the Korean conflict. He traveled extensively during his enlistment period in the Navy to Guam, Sea Of Japan, Hawaii, Saipan, Sicily, Greece, France, Mediterranean, Italy, Spain, Morocco, and Cuba. He received the National Defense Korean Service Medal and the United Nations China Service Medal. He lived much of his life in Baytown, Texas, enjoyed deep sea fishing, crabbing, and shrimping, was an avid football fan, enjoyed spending time with his family, travel, and dogs.

He is survived by one daughter, Mary Denu and husband Kenneth, Jasper; one son, Stephen Ambrose, Catoosa, Oklahoma; four step-daughters, Vicki Shefeild, Marsha Rossell, Connie Schaeffer, and Tracy Allen Daw, all of Spurger, Texas.; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Pat Wilson, Luling, Texas.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one brother, Lew Ambrose, and one sister, Naomi Seagrest.

Friends may call from 3-7 PM (EDT) Sunday and 7-10 a.m. Monday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Martin of Tours Church or to the Northwood Retirement Community.
