Truck Accident Knocks Out Power In Dubois Area; Another Accident Also Strikes Utility Pole (BLOTTER)

DUBOIS (NNDC) – An early Sunday morning accident just east of Dubois resulted in a power being knocked out for a short time in the Dubois area.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says 41-year old Cherie Pieper of Dubois was traveling east on East Dubois-Cuzco Road when her truck left the roadway about a mile east of the NDHS Softball field and struck a utility pole.   The impact snapped the pole  knocking out power in the area for a couple of hours.  Power was reported out as far away as Cuzco.

Pieper was not hurt in the accident that happened at about 1:15AM.  Her truck was totaled.   Dubois Rural Electric crews were brought in to restore power.

Driver Not Hurt In Single-Vehicle Accident Near Crystal 

CRYSTAL (NNDC) – A St. Anthony man was not injured in a single vehicle accident along Indiana 56 near Crystal.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says 70-year old George Knies of St. Anthony was traveling west on Indiana 56 when he swerved to miss a deer near East Cuzco Road West in the Crystal area.

DCSD says Knies lost the control of his truck after missing the dear and his truck crossed over the eastbound lane of Indiana 56 where it struck a utility pole before coming to rest in a ditch.

Knies was not hurt though his truck was totaled in the accident.

Huntingburg Woman Arrested For OWI Endangerment

HUNTINGBURG (NNDC) – A Huntingburg woman was arrested Thanksgiving morning for Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated.  Huntingburg police arrested 54-year old Lisa Brown shortly before 1:ooAM after police say they observed her SUV traveling left of center while in the 1900 block of Main Street (U. S. 231).

HPD says officers also observed Brown’s vehicle partially leaving the roadway before Brown pulled the vehicle on 22nd Street when HPD initiated a traffic stop.

HPD says Brown’s blood alcohol level tested .20%.  She’s charged with OWI causing endangerment (a Class A misdemeanor).
