Jasper Woman Struck By Car On North Newton; St. Anthony Man Injured In Overnight Accident (BLOTTER)

dasleben hausJASPER (NNDC) – A Jasper woman suffered head injuries late Thursday afternoon when struck by a car on North Newton Street.

Jasper City Police report Lois Sewell, 67, of Huntingburg, was driving north on Newton in the right turn only lane near the entrance to Walmart. Northbound traffic in the lane to the left of Sewell was stopped due to a red light at the intersection of Baden Strasse and Newton Street. Rachael E. Prior, 27, of Jasper, was attempting to cross the highway. She told police that when an individual in one of the stopped vehicles waved her on to cross the road she ran into the path of Sewell’s vehicle. Neither Sewell nor Prior saw the other before Prior was struck on the right front of Sewell’s vehicle. She suffered an abrasion to the forehead and was taken to Memorial Hospital.

No charges were filed in the accident.

One Injured In Single-Vehicle Accident North of Birdseye

BIRDSEYE (NNDC) – A St. Anthony man was injured in an overnight single-vehicle accident south of Patoka Lake.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says 21-year old Tyler Eckert was southbound on Kings Ridge Road just east of Harts Gravel Road when he lost control of his pickup truck.  His truck went into a ditch before striking a tree and a culvert.

DCSD says Eckert was able to transport himself to Memorial Hospital in Jasper with the help of friends and family.

He was later transported to a Louisville hospital by LifeFlight.

DCSD says charges are pending against Eckert and alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the accident.
