Alva Freadman Allen, 93, Jasper

Alva AllenAlva Freadman Allen, 93, of Jasper, died Monday (November 9) at the Timbers of Jasper Health Care Center in Jasper. He was born in Daviess County January 7, 1922, to Dale and May (Raney) Allen. He married Elizabeth Hart July 3, 1943’ in Washington. She died September 9, 2008.

Alva was a WWII Army veteran. He retired as a public school superintendent. He was a member of The Indiana Association of public school superintendents, Phi Delta Kappa, Jasper Masonic Lodge No. 743, and First Presbyterian Church of Jasper.

He is survived by three sons, Dennis D. Allen, Pinellas Park, Florida, Daryl R. Allen, Lakewood, Colorado, and David L. Allen, Jasper; and five sisters, Lucille Arvin, Washington, Camilla Peterson, Mesa, Arizlona, Emma Harder, Cannelburg, and Betty Kelley and Joyce Martin, both of Washington.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by six sisters and five brothers.

Interment in Oak Grove Cemetery of Reeve Township in Daviess Count at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 21, followed by memorial services at 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church. Rev. Jerry Straight will officiate. Masonic Line Lodge No. 743 will conduct its memorial service.
