Levanis T. “Lenny” Ernst, 76, Jasper

Lenny ErnstLevanis T. “Lenny” Ernst, 76, of Jasper, died Wednesday (November 11) at his home. He was born in Jasper September 6, 1939, to Theodore and Thresia (Arehart) Ernst. He married Barbara Smith October 13, 1962, at St. Mary’s Church in Huntingburg.

Lenny retired from the Jasper Corporation after more than 35 years of service. He ┬áthen worked part time for St. Charles Medical Complex. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Jasper Moose, and Jasper Outdoor Recreation. He served in the Indiana Army National Guard. For many years he played “Santa” for many organizations and families. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ernst; one daughter, Lisa Ruhe and husband Mike, Jasper; two sons, Mark Ernst and wife Jill, and Brian Ernst, all of Jasper; and four grandchildren, Kirby, Kortney, and Kendyl Ruhe and Landon Ernst.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters, Carol Matheis, Dolores Flannagan, and Claretta Ernst, who died in infancy.

Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Sunday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper. Members of the Jasper Moose Lodge will conduct a memorial service at 6 p.m.┬áMemorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s Church or to a favorite charity.
