MARENGO (NNDC) – A Huntingbury truck driver was not injured in a double-fatal accident Thursday morning in Crawford County.

The Crawford County Sheriff’s Department says two people were killed and a toddler was critically injured in the accident that happened just before 10:00AM Thursday along Indiana 64 west of Marengo.

CCSD says the driver of the car involved, 23-year old Daniel Allen of Marengo crossed the center line while westbound on Indiana 64 near Mulzer Quarry Road and collided head-on with an eastbound semi. The semi was driven by 59-year old Tim Mehling of Huntingburg.

CCSD says Allen was airlifted to Harrison County Hospital in Corydon where died from his injuries. A passenger in his car, Carrie Walker of English was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sheriff’s department says Walker’s two-year-old son was in a child safety seat in the back seat of the car. He was taken to Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville in critical condition with multiple fractures. Authorities say Allen and Walker were not wearing their seat belts.

Mehling, who was not injured, told CCSD deputies he was getting ready to turn onto Mulzer Quarry Road and was almost to a full stop when the semi was hit.

Toxicology results are pending as the investigation into the crash continues.
