Huntingburg Coal Company Making “Permanent Reductions In Force”

Northweed AdHUNTINGBURG (NNDC) – Huntingburg-based UMI LLC and United Materials Company, LLC has announced what is being called a “permanent reduction in workforce” at all of its southwest Indiana locations.

Company president Greg Olinger announced the reduction in a letter this week to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

Olinger says 138 employees will be affected by the closing of the company’s home office in Huntingburg and its eight other locations, all outside Dubois County, including coal mines in Pike, Gibson, and Warrick counties.

Olinger says, “this drastic reduction in force is being contemplated due to a reduction in coal sales and anticipated ongoing reduction in demand for coal.”

All nine company locations will be closed between December 31, 2015 and January 13, 2016.
