Hilliard “Max” Englert, 89, Ferdinand

Hilliard EnglertHilliard “Max” Englert, 89, of Ferdinand, died Tuesday (October 27) in Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand. He was born in Ferdinand March 26, 1926, to Adolph and Rose (Gehlhausen) Englert. He married Pauline Kleiser August 21, 1948, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.

Hilliard retired as a mechanic at Bolte’s Service Center in Ferdinand. He was a WWII army veteran and served in the Philippines. He was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish, Jasper Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 673, and Ferdinand American Legion Post 124. He was a retired fireman with the Ferdinand Volunteer Fire Department, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, and making homebrew and wine.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline Englert; two sons, Denny Englert and wife Becky, Ferdinand, and Tom Englert and wife Cheryl, Jasper; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Ramona Lindauer, Jasper; two brothers, Floyd Englert and wife Ruth and Sylvan Englert and wife Rosie, all of Ferdinand. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Leatrise Englert.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m Thursday and 7-9:30 a.m. Friday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Online condolences at www.becherfuneralhome.com. Funeral services at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Henry Catholic Church with burial following in St. Ferdinand Church Cemetery. Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 will conduct military graveside rites.
