Evansville Woman Facing Several Charges After Being Arrested Late Saturday Night

HUNTINGBURG (NNDC) – A tip to Huntingburg police led to the arrest of an Evansville woman late Saturday night.

HPD says 21-year old Christy Lawniczak was taken into custody charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated, Disorderly Conduct, False Reporting, and Resisting Arrest.

HPD says it got a call at about 11:45PM Saturday about a possible impaired driver of car that struck a construction barrel near U.S. 231 and Indiana 162 in Jasper and who was now at the Huck’s store at 6th (U. S. 231) and Main streets in Huntingburg.

When HPD officers arrived at Huck’s it was quickly determined Lawniczak was driving when the car struck the construction barrel Jasper.  HPD says the car’s bumper was cracked and had orange paint on that matched the construction barrel’s paint.

Police say Lawniczak initially denied being the driver of the car and police say she Lawniczak told officer two other people were behind the wheel earlier.  However, HPD says witness statements and surveillance video Huck’s proved otherwise.

HPD says Lawniczak was placed under arrest after she failed field sobriety.

Police also say that  in the HPD patrol car at Huck’s, Lawniczak began kicking the back of the vehicle’s seat.  She also kicked the car’s on-board printer inside.

HPD says Lawniczak refused to give consent for blood alcohol testing so HPD officers sought and were granted a warrant for a blood and/or urine sample from Lawniczak which he did provide.

Her blood alcohol level tested at .09%,
