Thomas E. Foisy, 81, Jasper

Thomas FoisyThomas E. Foisy, 81, of Jasper, died Monday (October 12) at his home. He was born in Lorain, Ohio, July 30, 1934, to George and Georgene (Craft) Foisy. He married Linda DeLuca January 12, 1957, in Lorain.

Thomas served in the U.S. Navy, two years of active duty and eight years of reserve service. He retired from the City of Jasper Park and Recreation Department where he drove the OATS van, mowed, and performed other duties. He also worked for the 7-up Company for many years, managing the distribution plant in Jasper and receiving recognition for top sales. He was a substitute teacher at Precious Blood Catholic School and worked for the census bureau.

He was active in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, a member of the Parish Council, served as president of the council, was a Eucharistic Minister, and sang in the choir. He taught religious education for many years in Jasper and Fort Wayne, was involved in the Cursillo and CRHP programs. He was also a member of St. Jude Parish in Fort Wayne, and St. Mary’s Parish in Lorain, Ohio, from where he graduated. He was a charter and lifetime member of the Jasper Optimist Club, serving as the club president from 1983-1984, and Lt. Governor of the zone in subsequent years and led the oratorical contest and respect for law programs. He was a member of the Ireland Knights of Columbus council and was involved in other clubs and organizations in the community. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, his friends, boating, motorcycles, and singing, especially with his brothers.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Foisy; four daughters, Kathy Himsel and husband Edward, and Linda Foisy, all of Jasper, Patty Petry, Rockport, and Lisa Nelson and husband Kenny, Irvington, Kentucky; two sons, Tom A. Foisy, and wife, Elwanda, Ft. Wayne, and Gary Foisy, Dubois; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marian Schnitzler and husband Bob, San Juan Capistrano, California, and Joanne Farr, Wellington, Ohio; three brothers, Dave Foisy and wife Donna, Lorain, Ohio, Ken Foisy and wife Mary Lou, Vermillion, and Gerald Foisy and wife, Jeanne, San Jose, California; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Nina Marie Himsel, one sister, Helen Witmer, three brothers, John, Ray, and Bob Foisy, and a brother-in-law, Dwight Farr.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph’s Church. V.F.W. Post No. 673 will conduct military rites. Becher-Kluesner Funeral Home in Jasper is in charge of arrangements.
