Two Arrested After Single-Vehicle Accident Near Ireland

IRELAND (NNDC) – The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says the driver of a car involved in a single-vehicle accident early Sunday morning was arrested on several charges including Leaving the Scene of the 5:00AM accident.

DCSD says it learned of the accident when two passengers in the car involved showed up at Jasper’s Memorial Hospital in Jasper later that morning.  18-year old Jackson Land had what authorities say was a scrape to his lower arm.  Meanwhile, a 17-year old girl from Jasper was treated for lower abdomen/pelvis pain.

They told deputies the car they were in was driven by 20-year old Dillon Tuell.  All three left the scene of the accident that happened at a bridge on West 200 North just west of North 600 West.

DCSD says Tuell’s car was eastbound on West 200 North when drove around a road-closed barricade just before the bridge for construction work.  DCSD says Tuell continued on West 200 North at a high rate of speed before striking a rock pile at the bridge.  DCSD says Tuell’s car went airborne, hit a newly-installed bridge piler, spun coming to rest on its side.

Deputies located Tuell at his home in Jasper.  DCSD says Tuell, who had scrapes on his face from the accident, later tested .13% (B.A.C).  Tuell was taken into custody on misdemeanor counts Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated, Minor Consuming and Leaving the Scene of an Accident.

Meanwhile, Land was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor count of Minor Consuming.
