Football Sectional Draw Held Sunday; All Three County Schools Host First Round Games

INDIANAPOLIS (NNDC) – On Sunday, the state’s 321 high school football teams found out their sectional opponents for the upcoming 43rd Annual  IHSAA Football State Tournament presented by the Indianapolis Colts.

Jasper, Southridge and Forest Park will all host first round sectional games on October 23rd.

The 12 teams earning a berth in the state finals will play on Thanksgiving weekend in Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts, the state tournament’s presenting sponsor. The state championship games alternate each year as the Class A, 3A and 5A games will be played on Friday, November 27th while the 2A, 4A and 6A contests are set for Saturday, November 28th.

In the 4A sectionals, Jasper (7-1) will host Owen Valley (7-1) in the first round.  In Class 3A, Southridge (6-2) will host North Harrison (8-0), and in Class 2A, Forest Park (4-4) hosts fellow PAC foe North Posey (2-6).

Though in the same sectional for several years now, Jasper has not played Owen Valley since 2008 when the Wildcats defeated the Patriots 50-8 enroute to the sectional title that year.   Jasper is 3-0 all-time against Owen Valley; all three meetings have been in sectional matchups.

This will be the first meeting ever between Southridge and North Harrison.  Southridge was moved up to Class 3A prior to the season.  The Cougars are enjoying their best football season in school history this fall.

Forest Park defeated the Vikings during the regular season at Poseyville 35-10 back on September 25th.
