Gene Allen Meyerholtz, 76, Huntingburg

RuntGene Allen Meyerholtz, 76, of Huntingburg, died Wednesday (October 7) at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. He was born in Huntingburg February 11, 1939, Millard Meyerholtz, Sr. and Edna (Schmaker) Meyerholtz.

Gene’s first job was at Struckman Automotive in Huntingburg followed by 22 years at Styline Corporation. In 1979, he co-founded Dubois Wood Products with Jack Parker. He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, where he served as president of the church council, the Jaycees, the Optimist Club, the Y.M.I. Club, and Dubois County Masonic Lodge No. 520 F&AM. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Glenda R. (Schwambach) Meyerholtz; one son, Bryan Meyerholtz and wife Jannette, Huntingburg; two daughters, Karen Snyder and husband Bruce and Marcia Messmer, all of Huntingburg; six sisters, Judy Selvidge, Duff, and Anna Mary Feldmeyer, Alice Duncan, Betty O’Brien, Linda Leibering, and Caroline Phillips, all of Huntingburg; one brother, Millard Meyerholtz, Jr., Huntingburg; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Douglas Meyerholtz, and one brother, Billy Meyerholtz.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg and from 9-10 a.m. Monday at Salem United Church of Christ. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to Salem United Church. Condolences may be shared online at Funeral services at a.m. (EDT) Monday at the church with burial following in Fairmount Cemetery. Pastor Mark West will officiate.
