Marilyn J. Schmitt, 68, Jasper

Marilyn SchmittMarilyn J. Schmitt, 68, of Jasper, died Saturday (October 3) at University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville. She was born in Jasper November 24, 1946, to Lawrence and Marcella (Marks) Fleck. She married Alan W. Schmitt June 17, 1967, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.

Marilyn was a homemaker and an antique dealer for many years. She was a member of St. Joseph Church and the Psi Iota Xi Sorority. She enjoyed restoring her 1879 historic Eckert home, cooking, gardening, traveling, quilting, sewing, and arts and crafts of all kinds. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Alan W. Schmitt; three daughters, Alana Goepfrich and husband Mike, Jasper, Melanie Nichols, Burlington, Kentucky, and Andrea Martinez and husband José Lewis, Clearwater, Florida; five grandchildren, Adam and Josie Goepfrich and Caleb, Jacob, and Eli Nichols; one sister, Carolyn “Kitty” Weikert and husband William, Ireland; and two brothers, Gene Fleck and wife Laura, Huntington, and Dan Fleck and wife Joan, Plainfield.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three sisters, Irma Schnaus, Margaret Kress, and Donna Schmitt, and one brother, Allen Fleck.

Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. The Legion of Mary will pray the rosary at 2:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Church or to a favorite charity. Online condolences may be made at www.becherkluesner.com.
