FERDINAND (NNDC) – Monday is the deadline to register for the Ferdinand Tour-and-Nosh event scheduled Sunday, October 11.

Tour highlights will include the Monastery Immaculate Conception, where participants will sample cookies made by the Sisters of St. Benedict in their Simply Divine Bakery on their 190-acre campus. Tell City pretzels will complement local beers at St. Benedict’s Brew Works in a repurposed 1947 barn on the campus.

During the event Indiana Landmarks will present its Rosemary Prentice Southern Indiana Preservation Awards in the monestary’s St. Gertrude Hall. The awards will be presented to persons from Dubois County responsible for the work on the Wollenmann House in Ferdinand and the old Locker Building in Huntingburg. The Wollenman House was on the 10 most endangered list a few years ago and the Locker Building was under threat of a demolition order after a fire gutted the interior. The awards highlight the preservation and repurposing of historically significant buildings within the county.

The October 11 walking tour and sampling of artisan foods in Ferdinand will highlight a number of local artisan foods that are becoming commercially viable businesses in the area. The tour will include the c.1880 Vincent Metzger House and St. Ferdinand church and rectory (1848/1897), the Second Empire-style Tretter Center, where participants will be treated to Jasper-made Dad’s Root Beer paired with popcorn from the Jasper Gift Basket and Popcorn Company, and the Money Hollow Winery and Bistro in the 1903 Wollenman House featuring local wines and organic cheeses from Steckler Grassfed Farm.

Tickets are $20 for members of Indiana Landmarks and $25 for the general public. Tickets can be purchased on line at or by calling 317 639-4534 or 800 450-4534 by days end Monday.
