Local Bands Do Well Over The Weekend

EVANSVILLE (NNDC) – Both Forest Park and Southridge took overall first place honors at their respective band competitions this past weekend while Jasper finished a strong second at Avon.

The nine-time ISSMA Class D state champion Marching Rangers of Forest Park High School took first place in the Class 3A Evansville North Invitational on Saturday. The band also won the top category award for general effect.

Southridge took first place overall in the Class C Castle High School Invitational on Saturday. The Marching Raiders were also awarded for best percussion, best color guard and best pit crew.

Southridge also took part in the Class A Evansville North Invitational where they were fourth out of six bands competing. Southridge did take top honors in the categories of best visual and best drum major.

Meanwhile, Jasper took second in the Class B Avon Invitational Saturday night. Jasper was second to Northview. The Marching Wildcats did win the category awards for best music and for best general effect.

And Northeast Dubois placed third out of four bands competiting at the Class A Floyd Central Invitational on Saturday.

All four local marching bands will be competing once again this coming weekend.

The Marching Wildcats will be at the Mid-States Band Association Regional hosted by Simon Kenton High School in Independence, Kentucky. Jasper performs at 3:45PM.

Forest Park will perform at two events this weekend. The first will be at the Ben Davis High School Invitation where the Marching Rangers will take the field at 6:33PM. They will then head down hop on I-465 south to Decatur Central’s event where they will take the field at 8:44PM.

Southridge will be at the Decatur Central Invitational. They will perform at 7:39PM.

And Northeast Dubois will take part in the Festival of Marching Bands hosted by Springs Valley High School in French Lick. The Marching Jeeps will take the field at 5:00PM.
