Edgar V. Ebert, 74, of Ferdinand, died Thursday (September 24) at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville. He was born in Fulda February 24,1941, to Lawrence and Lorine (Gudorf) Ebert. He married Alberta T. Witte September 15,1962, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg. She died May 13, 2004.

Edgar retired from Jasper Engines in 2004 after 24 years of employment. He was a farm implement mechanic in the area. He also worked at Jasper Implement and the Hoosier Garage. He was a veteran of the Viet Nam Era and served two years in Germany. He was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish and its St. Joseph’s Sodality, Ferdinand Senior Citizens, Ferdinand American Legion Post 124, Ferdinand Veterans Of Foreign Wars, and the Ferdinand Community Center. He was a former scoutmaster for Ferdinand Troop 186, an avid hunter and fisherman, repaired and refurbished old tractors as a hobby, and loved his dog “Lex”.

He is survived by one daughter, Sherry Jones and husband Doyle, Ferdinand; two sons, Terry Ebert and wife Kathleen, St. Anthony, and Jerry Ebert and wife Julie, Ferdinand; his fiancé, Gloria Petry, Ferdinand; four grandchildren, Grant, Amelia, and Owen Ebert and Robert Jones; four brothers, Charles Ebert and wife Carol, Dubois, Ted Meyer, San Angelo, Texas, and Pat and Dave Meyer, both of Huntingburg; and two sisters, Bertha Denning and Marie Gessner, both of Feredinand.

In addition to his parents and wife he was wife he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Theodore Meyer.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Monday and from 7-9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Funeral services at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ferdinand Church followed by burial in the church cemetery. Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 will conduct military graveside services.
