Lugene Andry, 88, Birdseye

Lugene AndryLugene Andry, 88, of Birdseye, died Tuesday (September 22) at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. He was born near Birdseye August 17, 1927, to Everett and Alice (Eckert) Andry. He married Norma E. Cook May 27, 1948, in Jasper.

Lugene worked in the road construction business and was employed by Olinger Construction Company for 27 years and J.H. Rudolph Asphalt Company where he retired. He was a member of the Fairview General Baptist Church in Taswell and a charter member of the Birdseye Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed farming and was an avid coon hunter.

He is survived by his wife, Norma E. Andry, Birdseye; one son, Donnie Andry and wife Margie, Birdseye; one daughter, Debbie Houchin and husband Steve, Stendal; three grandchildren, Gwen Boylan and husband Scott, Indianapolis; Stephen Toby and wife, Lori, Jasper, and Alana Andry and husband Seth Fauquher, Birdseye; three great-grandchildren, Samantha Boylan and Kay Toby and Cody Casper; and one great-great granddaughter, Nyla Lee Casper; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he preceded in death by one son, David Andry, and two brothers, Clifford Andry, and Novie Lee Andry, who died in infancy.

Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. (EDT) Thursday at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. A vigil service, conducted by members of the Birdseye Volunteer Fire Department, will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Fairview General Baptist Church, the Birdseye Volunteer Fire Department, or to the Birdseye Cemetery Association. Condolences may be shared online at Funeral services at 2 p.m. (EDT) Friday at the funeral home with burial following in the Birdseye Cemetery. Rev. Kim Allen will officiate at the service.
