Leroy H. Witte, 70, Ireland

Leroy WitteLeroy H. Witte, 70, of Ireland, died Tuesday (September 22) at St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville. He was born in Ferdinand November 1, 1944, to Emil and Lucille (Auffart) Witte. He married Kathleen Temple July 2, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland.

Leroy was an Indiana Army National Guard veteran and a member of American Legion Post No. 147. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church and Jasper Outdoor Recreation. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Witte; two sons, Mark Witte and wife Ken, Celestine, and Keith Witte and wife Lisa, Ireland; four grandchildren, Cole, Max, Hannah and Claire Witte; two brothers, Dennis Witte and wife Agnes, Huntingburg, and Allan Witte and wife Carol, Velpen; and three sisters, Mary Ann Witte, Jasper, and Dorothy Hoffman and Carol Schipp and husband Kenny, all of Ferdinand.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Kurt Witte, one sister, Alberta Ebert, and two brothers who died in infancy.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Church, Dubois County Humane Society, or to a favorite charity. American Legion Post No. 147 will conduct military gravesite rites.
