Crash Victims Remain In Critical Condition (with VIDEO)

FERDINAND (NNDC) – The two local men who were injured in Thursday’s two-vehicle accident remain in critical condition at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville.

The two men, 74-year old Edgar Ebert of Ferdinand and 71-year old Leroy Witte of Jasper were flown by helicopter to St. Mary’s after the utility terrain vehicle they were riding in along Indiana 162 was struck by an SUV north of Ferdinand.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says Ebert was driving the UTV north on the shoulder of the highway when it appears he attempted to make a right turn onto East 815 North.  DCSD deputy Chris Faulkenberg says the UTV pulled into the path of an SUV that was also northbound on the highway.

The SUV “T-boned” the ATV pushing it across the southbound lane and into the opposite shoulder before coming to rest.

The driver the SUV was 29-year old Sally Stout of Jasper.  She was not hurt.  DCSD says it appears both Ebert and Witte were wearing seatbelts as both men were still in the UTV when first responders arrived on scene.  A dog that was riding with them did not survive.

Both vehicles were totaled.
