Caroline “Carrie” Hoppenjans, 102, Ferdinand

Caroline Hoppenjans pic_Caroline “Carrie” Hoppenjans, 102, of Ferdinand, died Sunday (September 13) at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand. She was born in Huntingburg May 12, 1913, to Hugo and Rose (Boeckman) Schipp. She married Raymond E. Hoppenjans on April 27, 1937, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Huntingburg. He died March 23, 1989.

Caroline was a member of; St. Ferdinand Parish and its St. Ann’s Sodality, St. Henry Christian Knights of America, and Ferdinand Senior Citizens. She enjoyed playing cards, quilting, gardening, bingo, and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by one son, David Hoppenjans and wife Sheila, Ferdinand; one daughter, Rita Fuchs and husband Clarence, St. Henry; three grandchildren, Jill Weedman and John and Jaclyn Hoppenjans; and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Louis Schipp, and one sister, Josephine Schipp.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. (EST) Tuesday and from 7-9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Online condolences may be shared at www.becherfuneralhome.com. Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity. Funeral services at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ferdinand Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
