Eight Young Ladies Vying For Miss Schnellville Sesquicentennial Crown; Seven For Junior Title (PHOTO GALLERY)

SCHNELLVILLE (NNDC) – One of eight local young ladies will be crowned Miss Schnellville Sesquidentennial.

The queen contest will be take place on Saturday, September 12 starting at 2:00pm in the Pine Ridge Elementary School gym.  Admission is $2, ages 4 and under are free.

Emily Gutgsell, 19, is the daughter of Brad and Melinda Gutgsell.  She is a 2014 graduate of Forest Park High School where she was a member of National Honor Society, Beta Club, FFA, Renaissance Club, and the softball team.  She was a 10 year member of Busy Bees 4-H Club and a member of Sacred Heart Youth Group.  Emily attends Vincennes University Jasper Campus where she is studying to be a nurse and is employed at Memorial Hospital & Health Care Center.

Kiersten Haas is the 17 year old daughter of Tom and Cheryl Haas.  She is a junior at Forest Park High School where she is her chapter’s Sentinel in FFA.  She is an active member in the Sacred Heart G2 Youth Group and took part in the cluster parish’s Appalachian Mission Trip.  She is also a member of the Busy Bees 4-H Club and Dubois County Jr Leaders.  Kiersten enjoys volunteering for church and fire department events, working on the farm, caring for her animals, camping, and fishing.

Haley Hoffman, 18, is the daughter of Dan and Karen Hoffman.  She is a 2015 graduate of Forest Park High School where she was a member of Students Against Destructive Decisions, Beta Club, and FFA.  Haley was also a member of Busy Bees 4-H Club and Dubois County Junior Leaders and a recipient of the St. Maria Goretti Youth Distinction Award.  She is now a freshman at Vincennes University.

Natalie Jacob is the 18 year old daughter of Rodney and Debbie Jacob.  She is a 2015 graduate of Forest Park High School where she participated in Students Against Destructive Decisions and Rangers for Christ.  She is a server and reader at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, was a 4 year member of youth group, and a 10 year member of the Busy Bees 4-H club.  Natalie is a freshman at the University of Southern Indiana.

Vanessa Lange, 17, is the daughter of Jerry and Glenda Lange. A senior at Forest Park High School, she participates in Key Club, National Honor Society, Beta Club, Students Against Destructive Decisions, volleyball, and softball; where she received the 2015 pitching award. She has consistently been on honor roll and earned academic honors. She was selected as a Hoosier Girl State delegate and has a poem published in “A Celebration of Poets.” Vanessa is also an active member of Busy Bees 4-H Club and Sacred Heart Youth Group.

Paige Leonard is the 14 year old daughter of Steve and Manda Leonard.  She is a freshman at Forest Park High School.  She is an active member of the Busy Bees 4-H club, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and G2 Youth Group.  Paige enjoys being outdoors and helps work on the family farm.

Jennifer Merkley, 17, is the daughter of George and Susan Merkley.  She is a senior at Northeast Dubois High School where she is a member of Drama Club, Destination Imagination, Beta Club, Academic Bowl, Business Professionals of America, FFA, French Club, and cheerleading.  She is a member of youth group and Busy Bees 4-H club and was a 2015 Girls State Delegate.

Hailey Thayer is the 17 year old daughter of Douglas and Janice Thayer.  A junior at Forest Park High School, she is a member of the state champion Marching Rangers, sectional champion bowling team, and tennis team.  She is also a member of the Busy Bees 4-H club where she has received multiple grand champion awards and St. Anthony Catholic Church.  Hailey enjoys spending time with her horses and listening to music with her brother.

Lydia Betz, 10, is the daughter of Brian and Sara Betz. She is a 5th grader at Cedar Crest Intermediate School and enjoys playing basketball. She is a member of the Busy Bees 4-H club and the Forest Park Girls Basketball Club. An active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lydia is an altar server, choir member, and helps with landscaping.

Tia Brosmer is the 13 year old daughter of John and Diane Brosmer. She is in the 7th grade at Forest Park Junior High where she participates in cheerleading and band. Tia has been on the honor roll and is in involved with Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Builders Club, Busy Bees 4-H club, and 4-H Paws & Pals.

Abigail Eckert, 13, is the daughter of Matt and Tonya Eckert. She is an 8th grader at Forest Park Junior High where she is a member of soccer, basketball, track, Builders Club, Student Council, and honor roll. Abigail is also a Busy Bees 4-H club member, participated in actor’s community theater summer production, volunteered during Vacation Bible school at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church and was a page for Indiana Lieutenant governor.

Claire Eckert is the 11 year old daughter of Matt and Tonya Eckert. A 6th grader at Cedar Crest Intermediate School, she participates in basketball, soccer, FPJH dance, and has made the honor roll. Claire is a member of Busy Bees 4-H club, participated in actor’s community theater summer production, involved with “Circle of the State with Song”, gold medalist at Solo & Ensemble, and received the Social Studies Academic Effort Award.

Linda Jacob, 13, is the daughter of Tony and Myrna Jacob. She is in the 7th grade at Forest Park Junior High where she plays basketball. Linda is a member of Busy Bees 4-H club, plays guitar, takes care of animals, and enjoys gardening.

McKayla Persohn is the 11 year old daughter of Mark and Amy Persohn. She is a 6th grader at Cedar Crest Intermediate School and is involved in basketball, volleyball, FPJH dance team, and K-Kids. McKayla has made the honor roll, volunteers at Schnellville Volunteer Fire Department events, and attends Hodgini Dance Studio. She enjoys camping, riding bike, and riding the four wheeler.

Anna Striegel, 12, is the daughter of Tony and Lisa Striegel. She is in the 6th grade at Cedar Crest Intermediate School where she has made the honor roll. Anna participates in basketball, softball, and 4-H and enjoys camping, swimming, and riding the four wheeler and motorcycle.
