Leona S. Wellmeyer, 85, Huntingburg

Leona WellmeyerLeona S. Wellmeyer, 85, of Huntingburg, died Sunday (August 30) at The Waters of Huntingburg nursing center. She was born in Holland October 13, 1929, Edward and Mary (Harmeyer) Niehaus. She married Waldo Wellmeyer in 1948. He died January 5, 1996.

Leona was a 1947 graduate of Holland High School. She was a farm wife and helped run the family dairy farm in Huntingburg and was a lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church in Holland.

She is survived by two daughters, Judy Epmeier and husband Bruce, Newburgh, and Nancy Wellmeyer, Indianapolis; two sons, Gary and Randy Wellmeyer, both of Huntingburg; one sister, Goldie Niehaus, Carmichael, California; two grandchildren, Michael Epmeier and wife Amanda, Newburgh, and Carrie Epmeier and husband Ryan Byrnes, Chicago; two great-grandsons, Isaac and Evan Epmeier, Newburgh; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one sister, Meta Katter, and two brothers, Raymond and Eldo Niehaus.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. James Church or to Deaconess V.N.A. Hospice. Condolences may be shared online at www.nassandson.com, Funeral services at 10 a.m. (EDT) Wednesday at the funeral home with burial following in Fairmount Cemtery. Pastor David Darling will officiate at the services.
