Robert Lee “Bob” Luker, 84, Huntingburg

Bob Luker useRobert Lee Luker, 85, of Huntingburg, died Monday (August 24) at his home. He was born in Stendal August 25, 1929, to Elmer and Ida (Hagemeyer) Luker. He married Beverly Katter August 26, 1950, in Stendal.

Bob was a 1947 graduate of Stendal High School and received his Bachelor’s degree in Education from Oakland City College in 1959, his Master’s degree in Education from Indiana State University in 1965. He was a teacher and coach at Stendal and Winslow High Schools from 1959 to 1964. In 1964, he became a guidance counselor and coach at Huntingburg High School and concluded his career at Southridge High School in 1991. He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Stendal, the Indiana State Teachers Association, and the Indiana High School Coaches Association.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Luker; three daughters, Gail Garner and husband John, Greencastle, Debi Ohanian and husband Phil, of Huntingburg, and Joyce Boeglin and husband David, Terre Haute; one son, Mike Luker and wife Michelle, New Palestine; two brothers, Paul Luker, Pikeville, and Donald Luker, Stendal; one sister, Karen Jones, Stendal; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Kern and Austin Luker, and Gerald Luker who died in infancy.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg and from 9-10 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter’s Church. Memorial contributions can be made in Bob’s honor to St. Peter’s Church or to The Friends of Raider Field in care of the Dubois County Foundation. Condolences may be shared online at Funeral services at 10 a.m. (EDT) Thursday at St. Peter’s Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Pastor Ed Wicks will officiate at the services.
