Norbert E. Olinger, 84, Huntingburg

Norb OlingerNorbert E. Olinger, 84, of Huntingburg, died Friday (August 21) at The Waters of Huntingburg Nursing Center. He was born in Huntingburg December 14, 1930, to Ray and Mary (Kordes) Olinger. He married Judy E. Nahler December 31, 1958, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg.

Norbert was a 1948 graduate of Huntingburg High School and a 1952 graduate of Purdue University. He served two years as a member of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. In 1954 he began a career as a partner in Olinger Construction Company in Huntingburg. He served as a director with First National Bank of Huntingburg, was a member of St. Mary’s Church, the Young Men’s Institute, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2366, the American Legion, the Huntingburg
Jaycees, and was past-president of the Huntingburg Country Club. He was a charter member of the Purdue Alumni Club of Dubois County and was a private pilot for 50 years.

He is survived by his wife, Judy E. Olinger; one son, Kent Olinger, Huntingburg; one daughter, Laura Olinger Tucker and husband Greg, Boulder, Colorado; two sisters, Rosemary Mundy and Doris Tretter, both of Huntingburg; one brother, Max Olinger and wife Dorothy, Santa Claus; and two granddaughters, Amalia and Hannah Frick, New York City.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Leeray Olinger, and two brothers-in-law, Leroy Mundy and Kenneth Tretter.

Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Monday at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg and from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at Salem United Church of Christ. A vigil prayer service, conducted by Rev. Fr. Ryan Hilderbrand, will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grissom Scholarship Fund of the Purdue Alumni Club of Dubois County. Condolences may be shared online at www.nassandson.com. Memorial services at 11 a.m. (EDT) Tuesday at Salem United Church of Christ. Rev. Mark West will officiate at the service. Interment of his cremains will be held at a later date.
