JASPER (NNDC) – A local man has been extradited back to Dubois County to face child molesting and other charges here.

DCSD spokesman Sgt. Stuart Wilson says 33-year old Kurtis Head of Jasper arrived at the Dubois County Security Center Thursday evening.  He was transferred from a federal prison in Virginia where he is currently serving an eight-year sentence for a federal child pornography conviction.

Head was arrested in Jasper in July of 2013 at his apartment on West 43rd Street by federal agents and local police.  Agents with the federal Department of Homeland Security said at the time, they found a hard drive on a computer in Head’s home that contained what they say were “thousands of images and videos” of minors engaged in sexual conduct.

The federal part of the investigation led to Head being sentenced in July of 2014 to at least eight years in a federal prison.

Head has been brought back to Dubois County where he faces a Class C felony count of Child Molestation, two Class C felony counts of Child Exploitation and two Class D felony counts of Criminal Confinement.

Dubois County Deputy Prosecutor Brian Lucchi says Head will make his initial appearance on the local charges Monday in Dubois Circuit Court.

Authorities here say that in May 2010, at his apartment, Head inappropriately touched a girl younger than 14.  He is also to have allegedly confined the same girl and a young boy inside his apartment and showed them pornography.
