Dorothy M. Aufderhar, 95, Jasper

Dorothy A.Dorothy M. Aufderhar, 95, of Jasper, died Thursday (August 13) at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper. She was born in Huntingburg April 9, 1920, to Walter and Adelia (Frick) Heim. She married Albert J. Aufderhar July 28, 1940, at Salem Church. He died December 20, 2001.

Dorothy was a 1938 graduate of Huntingburg High School. She worked as a school secretary at Southridge High School, was a member of the Business and Professional Women, the Huntingburg Research Club, the Dubois County Home Economics Club, and Salem United Church of Christ in Huntingburg where she served as past-president of the Women’s Guild and as chairwoman of Salem’s 150th Anniversary Committee. In 1993, the 19th General Synod of the United Church of Christ honored he by presenting her with the award for Outstanding Lay Woman of the Indiana-Kentucky Conference of churches. She enjoyed bird watching, researching genealogy, and loved to read.

She is survived by two sons, Steve Aufderhar, Ball Ground, Georgia, John Aufderhar and wife Linda, Madison, Alabama; three daughters, Jan Weryer and husband John, and Joyce Eastwood, all of Jasper; and Sara Aufderhar, Ocala, Florida; one sister, Wilma Barnhart and husband Bill, Tell City; nine grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and 11 step great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. Memorial contributions can be made to Salem United Church of Christ. Condolences may be shared online at Funeral services at 10 a.m. (EDT) Monday at the funeral home with burial following in Fairmont Cemtery. Rev. Mark West will officiate.
