ERRANT TIRE TAKES OUT TWO PASSING VEHICLES

FERDINAND (NNDC) – An errant tire in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 64 east of Ferdinand contributed to two single-vehicle accidents early Thursday afternoon.

Ferdinand police say both accidents happened about three miles east of the Ferdinand exit.

In the first acccident, 80-year old Bob Ruckriegel of Jasper says he was unable to avoid the tire as he was passing another vehicle.  FPD says Ruckriegel’s car sustained disabling damage and had to be towed from the scene.

Moments later, a second driver, 48-year old Gaspar Gonzalez of Terre Haute told FPD says he saw the tire and swerved to avoid it.  But he says  then over-corrected his steering causing the car to go off the south side of the interstate; down an embankment and striking a drainage culvert.
