Jr. Miss Strassenfest Candidates Announced (PHOTO GALLERY)

JASPER (Local Sources) – The Jasper Jr. Miss Strassenfest Contest will be held Saturday, July 25 at 7 pm in conjunction with the Miss Strassenfest Pageant and the Little Miss and Little Mister Strassenfest Pageants at the Jasper Middle School Auditorium. A limited number of tickets may still be purchased for $5 each at the Jasper Chamber of Commerce, W. 6th Street, Jasper, 812-482-6866.

Young ladies who currently live in the Greater Jasper School District and will be entering grades 7 or 8 for the 2015/2016 school year were eligible to participate. This year, eleven contestants will be vying for the Jr. Miss Strassenfest title.

Scholarships will be awarded to the Jr. Miss and first runner-up in the amounts of $250 and $125, respectively. A second runner-up, Miss Congeniality, and Miss Photogenic will also be awarded.

The mission of the Jr. Miss Strassenfest Scholarship Program is to encourage and develop the life skills of young women through community service involvement, public speaking opportunities, interview skills and personal development.

Contestants will participate in four categories: scholastics, an interview with judges, a community service project and on-stage presentation. Each contestant volunteered at least four hours and in total contributed 44 hours to a number of worth-while causes.

The eleven contestants are:

Isabelle Blazey is the daughter of Darla and Scott Blazey. She will be an 8th grader at Jasper Middle School. She volunteered at the Jasper Park & Recreation Department and collected donations for the Top Soccer program.

Anne Brake is the daughter of Holly and Joseph Brake. She will be an 8th grader at Jasper Middle School. She volunteered at Camp Care at the Habig Community Center.

Andrea Burkhart is the daughter of Heather and Jason Burkhart. She will be a 7th grader at Jasper Middle School. She volunteered at Shiloh United Methodist Church’s preschool.

Heather Gudorf is the daughter of Tracey and Brad Gudorf. She will be an 8th grader at Jasper Middle School. She volunteered at the Dubois County Humane Society.

Kennedy Nicholson is the daughter of Trish and Lonnie Nicholson. She will be an 8th grader at Holy Trinity Catholic School. She volunteered at the Dubois County Humane Society.

Emily Patterson is the daughter of Ann and Darren Patterson. She will be an 8th grader at Jasper Middle School. She volunteered at the Timbers of Jasper nursing home.

Caroline Prechtel is the daughter of Jennifer and Ryan Prechtel. She will be an 8th grader at Jasper Middle School. She volunteered by peer mentoring at St. Mary’s Church vacation bible school.

Katelynn Stemle is the daughter of Jennifer and Todd Stemle. She will be a 7th grader at Jasper Middle School. She volunteered at the Dubois County Food Bank.

Grace Truesdale is the daughter of Abby and John Truesdale. She will be an 8th grader at Jasper Middle School. She volunteered at St. Mary’s Church vacation bible school.

Claire Witte is the daughter of Lisa and Keith Witte. She will be a 7th grader at Jasper Middle School. She volunteered at St. Mary’s Church vacation bible school.

Lauren Verkamp is the daughter of Jennifer and Max Verkamp. She will be a 7th grader at Jasper Middle School. She volunteered at St. Joseph Church vacation bible school.
