Leroy Albert

Leroy J. Albert, 86, of Ferdinand, died Sunday (June 28) at his home. He was born in Ferdinand September 3, 1928, to Arthur F. and Ludwina (Werne) Albert. He married Patricia Fischer October 27, 1951, at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. She died August 7, 2011.

Leroy was a member of St. Ferdinand parish and its St. Joseph’s Sodality. He was a recipient of the Simon Brute Award, was a member of St. Meinrad Knights of Columbus No. 5599, and the Ferdinand Community Center. He enjoyed mowing and doing yard work, jig-saw puzzles, slot machines at casinos, and being with family and friends. He was retired from DMI and spent many years painting at Weyer Painting.

He is survived by one son, Keith Albert and wife Rebecca, Lewisville, Texas; three daughters, Pam Blessinger and husband Terry, St. Anthony, Kim Fleck and husband Kevin, Ferdinand, and Jenifer Moran and wife Rebecca, Evansville; three sisters, Joan Meyer and husband Bob, and Joan Meyer and husband Bob, all of Jasper, and Joyce Hornsey and husband Ed, Rolla, Missouri; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one step great-grandchild; and his companion, Helen Brockman.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph W. Albert.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 7-9:30 a.m. Thursday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Services at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Ferdinand Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Ferdinand Community Endowment Fund.
