Jasper Man Facing Several OWI-Related Charges; JPD Looking For Hit & Run Driver; Vehicle (POLICE BLOTTER)

JASPER MAN FACING SEVERAL O.W.I.-RELATED CHARGES

JASPER (NNDC) – A Jasper 24-year old Jasper man faces several charges after a receiving a tip about an impaired driver on U. S. 231 between Huntingburg and Jasper.

Jasper police say they received a call about a possible intoxicated driver.  The caller told police the vehicle they were following was “all over the roadway,” as well as traveling left of center and speeding up and slowing down.  The caller was following the vehicle all the way from Huntingburg into Jasper.

A JPD officer observed the vehicle as it approached the “Y” (U. S. 231 and Hoffman Drive) going left of center and initiated a traffic stop in the CVS parking lot in the 600 block of west 6th Street (U. S. 231).

JPD says police determined the driver, 24-year old Cameron Schitter of Jasper was intoxicated.  JPD says Schitter failed standard sobriety field tests and tested .168% on a field breathalyzer test (twice the legal limit to drive in Indiana).  Police say Schitter also tested .168% on a certified chemical test.

He is charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated, Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated with Endangerment, and Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated over .15% .

POLICE LOOKING FOR HIT-AND-RUN DRIVER; VEHICLE

JASPER (NNDC) – Jasper police are asking for the public’s help in finding the driver and vehicle involved in a hit-and-run accident early this morning in the parking lot of the Jasper WalMart store at 4040 Newton Street.

JPD says sometime between midnight and 1am a white 2001 Buick Park Avenue was struck in the right rear by another vehicle.  The second vehicle left the scene.

JASPER WOMAN ARRESTED FOR O.W.I.

JASPER (NNDC) – Police arrested 40-year old Shelly Woosley of Jasper late Friday morning for driving while operating a motor vehicle.

Jasper police say officers were investigating an unrelated complaint in the parking lot at 607 Third Avenue at about 11:45am when a car pulled into the parking lot.

Officers made contact with Woosley after officers say she showed signs of intoxication.  She was detained and then taken to Memorial Hospital for a blood draw.  Woosley tested positive for methamphetamines, amphetamines, and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

Woosley was then taken into custody and charged.

NO ONE HURT IN TWO-VEHICLE REAR-END COLLISION IN FERDINAND

FERDINAND (NNDC) – Ferdinand police say neither driver was injured in a two-vehicle accident late Friday afternoon on the town’s far northside.

FPD say a pickup truck driven by 38-year old Timothy Gunselman of Ferdinand was traveling north on Indiana 162 shortly before 5pm, but says did not see a car stopped for a red light with the intersection of Industrial Park Drive and collided into the rear of a car driven by 51-year old Theresa Schwartz of Ferdinand.

Gunselman told police he tried to stop before impact, but could not stop in time because of slick road conditions caused by rain.

No charges were filed by police.
