Delbert L. Niehaus, 77, Dale

Delbert NiehausDelbert L. Niehaus, 77, of Dale, died Monday (June 15) at Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville. He was born in Holland October 6, 1937, to Aaron and Opal (Wellmeyer) Niehaus.

Delbert was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the 2nd Armored Division (“Hell on Wheels”) at Fort Hood, Texas. He worked at Holland Dairy and as a heavy equipment mechanic at various coal mines. He was a member of Holland American Legion Post No. 343. He enjoyed sports, fishing, tinkering with his WD 45 Allis Chalmers tractor, and socializing with his buddies at the Holland Legion.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty (Sibrel) Niehaus; three daughters, Kim Clark and husband Gary, Hamilton, Ohio, Kelly Niehaus, Yellowbanks, and Kristy Miller and fiancé Vernon Light, Troy, Missouri; three brothers-in-law, Bill, Jim and Don Sibrel; one sister, Anna Mae Williams; four grandchildren, Leah, Lindsi, John, and Kayla; five great-grandchildren, Owen, Peyton, Cooper, Annabelle, and Korbin; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, his twin brother, Delmar, Ralph, Donny, and Junior Niehaus.

Services at 2 p.m. (EDT) Thursday at Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial following in St. James Lutheran Cemetery in Holland. Holland American Legion Post No. 343 will conduct military graveside rites. Jack Neighbors will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
