Henrietta “Sis” Ruxer, 88, Jasper

Sis RuxerHenrietta “Sis” Ruxer, 88, of Jasper, died Tuesday (June 2) at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper. She was born in St. Anthony October 11, 1926, to Hubert and Mary (Durcholz) Sternberg. She married Oliver Ruxer April 12, 1947, in St. Anthony Catholic Church. He died May 23, 2006.

Sis was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the St. Joseph’s St. Ann’s Society, the Jasper Circle of the Daughters of Isabella, and VFW Post No. 673 Auxiliary. She enjoyed  fishing and spending time outdoors, listening to sports, and spending time with friends, family, and family pets.

She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Himsel and husband Thomas, Greenwood, and Susan Abbett, Jasper; one son, Robert Ruxer, Jasper; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister; Edna Seelye, and four brothers, August, William, Richard, and Albert Sternberg , and one son-in law, Doug Abbett.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Mass  at 11 a.m. Saturday at  St. Joseph Church  with entombment to follow at a later date at Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dubois County Humane Society,  St. Joseph Church, or Northwood Retirement Community.
