Bristow Teen Killed; Surviving Driver Arrested In Accident East Of St. Meinrad

ST. MEINRAD (Local Sources) – Indiana State Police at Jasper say one person was killed; another arrested following a moped vs. car accident Monday night.

ISP says Phoenix Donaldson, 18, Bristow, pulled out from a driveway on his moped in the 700 block of Bristow-Saint Meinrad Road at about 7:10pm, Central Time.

ISP says Donaldson pulled out into the southbound lane where his moped was struck by a northbound car driven by Brock Smith, 26, Tell City.  Police say Smith locked up his brakes south of the driveway, leaving tire marks prior to and after the crash.

Donaldson was pronounced dead by the Perry County Coroner’s Office.

After further investigation, it was determined that Smith had operated his vehicle under the influence of methamphetamine. He was placed into custody without incident and is being held at the Perry County Jail.  He ‘s charged with Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death (a Level 4 felony) and  Operating While Intoxicated with a Controlled Substance (Class C misdemeanor)

This crash remains under investigation by the State Police.
